Kendall's dad got us bikes the other day. They were still in the boxes, so I got to put them together. I was extremely happy about that, considering I used to build bikes for the fun of it (also to sell them to my friends after making bikes out of their own bikes that I took from their yards***). Kendall's bike gave me no real problem at all, except I wasn't really paying attention at first and put the handlebars on while the front wheel was facing the wrong way. Fortunately, we hadn't found the proper allan key to tighten it, so it was loose enough to just turn the handlebars around to face the right way. My handlebars on the other hand were a real bitch. The cable for the right hand breaks (quick note, the brakes are switched in Oz from the states. I.E., in the states, the right hand is the back brakes and the left is the front, whereas here, they are switched) were wrapped around the frame. If I had left it the way it was, I would not have been able to turn to the left at all. SO, I had to completely take the cable out of the handlebar pull and unwrap it from the frame. I had already put the front tire on, but it wouldn't have made a difference, because there wasn't enough slack to get the brake cable around the fork, anyways. Way to go, Perigee, way to go. ANYWAYS, so Kendall and I decided to ride up to town tonight for a cuppa at a local restaurant/cafe/hotel-type-place. While we were there, Kendall and I started talking about things that were bothering us a bit. Nothing major, really, just this, that, the other and the else.
One thing that we did start talking about was my citizenship here in Oz. Right now, we have just enough money to get me over to New Zealand in two and a half months, if we don't buy a single thing between now and then. If we can't get me a ticket to NZ, then I've got to go back to the states. I have absolutely nothing over there. I have no where to go, no one who would be willing to let me stay with them, just because of how absolutely fucked up the economy is and NOBODY has a job, nor can the heads of the house support the entire house already, let alone if I were there!
*taking a break for the AWESOME FOOD that Kendall's dad cooks*
Mmm...Grilled chicken, corn, baked potatoes and peas with mint leaves...fucking DELICIOUS.
Anyways, where was I? Oh, right, things that suck.
The options I have right now are as such:
1. I can go back to the states come January (NOOOO!!).
2. I can wait for Kendall to get a job and have him foot the bill for me to get over to NZ every three months for an entire year or more after Kendall and Jess get their annulment so we can get married. I'll have to renew my visa from NZ, considering you can't renew the visa I'm currently here on from within the country.
3. Get a working visa and get my citizenship through a job (this would be less preferable, really, because I have to make sure that I do everything ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY or else I have to start over again).
4. Get a schooling visa. I wouldn't mind doing this one, because, hey, I'm going to school. This one also entails two different ways to get my citizenship, really. If I get my citizenship through schooling, I'll be going for a doctorate as a medical technician (preferable, because then I never actually have to come in contact with anyone and I'm TERRIBLE when I first meet someone. That, and I don't really like people, anyways). That process will take around 8 years or so. Probably more, but oh well. Now, five years into this, I'll be able to apply for residency. Two years after that, I'll be able to apply for PERMANENT residency. Two years (I think) after that, I'll be able to apply for my citizenship. That's if I don't actually get my citizenship through the schooling. As far as I know, if I actually finish and get my degree as an MT, I'll get my citizenship along with my diploma, or whatever I get then.
So yeah, that's what's been going through my mind tonight.
On a completely different note, Kendall's dad, Graeme, is so cool. He's knowledgeable on thousands of things, he's got more jokes than anyone I've ever known and he, likewise, has a great sense of humour.
...I need to get a video introducing Sandra and Kendall's dad.
*** - I made sure that I did it as legally as possible. I studied the garbage routes and only went to an area where it was a garbage night. If the bike was in the yard and less than 10 feet from the road, it was technically legal to take the bike, because it was legally garbage. I also made sure that I never took new bikes, so I was kind of doing people a favour taking their old bikes, anyways, right?
